Based on UBS’s analysis, retail sales of consumer goods grew at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 13.8% since 2000, leaving the total amount spent by Chinese households last year at 30 trillion RMB (US$4.6 trillion).

It seems like nothing gonna stop Chinese consumer on their spending! Like I said earlier, despite any recent slow growth, retail sales of consumer goods is still growing at a rate of around 10% per annum.

The data is even strongly supported by the online retail sales. It grew by 33% in 2015 and this number filled for more than 10% of total retail sales. This number is also higher than the US and Japan.

The number or mobile shopping in China grew by over 100% in 2015! It’s a super massive growth, and if we combine it with Chinese demographics, no wonder that mobile shopping or online retail sales will also hit an even higher rate in the years ahead.

Almost 80% of China’s internet users come from the people whose aged between 10-39 years that occupies 43% of Chinese population (1.3 billion people).  This number tells us an enormous opportunity for retailers as their numbers, and wealth, increase. And don’t forget, their consumption habits will influence the next generation, as more of these younger consumers go on to become parents.
