Foundry industry in India, started around 1940 in Howrah of West Bengal and then later on spread to other states such as, Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamilnadu. At present around 500 units exist in West Bengal with an installed capacity of 1 Million tonnes. 95% of these units are concentrated in the district of Howrah forming an informal cluster. Realizing the need for modernization, expansion and relocation of foundries, the Government of West Bengal has formed a modern Foundry Park in Howrah in 2011. Now West Bengal is the leading source of foundry products in India.

 

West Bengal is able to offer various cast iron products, from tailor made products based on customer needs and design, up to serial production in high volumes. West Bengal is able to produce and supply high-quality machined and coated products, applicable in the wide range of industry sectors. Main raw material is Grey cast iron which is generally used as a common engineering alloy. This is because of good machinability, and it is easy to weld.  Foundry products are used for motor housings, gear housings, pump parts, engine beds, etc. as per different National and International Specification.

Products: Production of motor and generator housings, end shields, terminal boxes, bearing shields and other components. products of submersible sewage pump parts such as: pump housings, volutes, bearing lids, impellers, wear plates and cable caps.  products of components for different industries such as:

  3. 3.  gearboxes, drives
  4. 4.  furnaces, stoves, grills

 

Also there are different products of manhole covers (50/150/250/400 KN), gully grates (250 KN), urban furniture and other products according to their own design. Customer design and tailor made products are also possible.

 

Howrah, in the state of West Bengal, has become one of the largest foundry clusters in India because huge availability of pig iron and coal in Eastern India and a large pool of skilled labour available in West Bengal. So, the price of any foundry products are most cheaper in West Bengal in respect of other parts of World.
